Four (4) year apprenticeship

 

The bricklayer installs brick, block, stone, usually brick with mortar, in building walls and sometimes floors.  Will most likely be working on scaffolding a great share of the time.  The bricklayer uses a trowel extensively for their work.  Will also be doing concrete grouting in masonry walls, brick and block repair work and some caulking.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

At least 18 years of age

11th grade education

Physically fit to perform work of the trade

Familiarity with construction is helpful

 

Much of the work will most likely be performed outdoors

 

The apprentice will receive increment wage rate increases based on a percentage of the journeyworkers rate, beginning at approximately 50% of journeyworker pay.

 

The apprentice will be required to attend related training classes, most likely in the evenings.

 

Condensed Work Experience:

 

Laying brick, block, stone, tile, glass block

Pointing, cleaning, waterproofing masonry

Grouting masonry units, caulking, fireproofing

Cutting different masonry items

Scaffolding

Blueprint reading

Care, use and operation of tools and equipment used by the bricklayer

 

Applications taken all year round
