Five (5) year apprenticeship

 

The steamfitter lays out, assembles, installs and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, cooling, natural gas, med gas, oxygen, vacuum, lubricating, industrial production, and processing systems.  Cuts, threads, joins and bends pipes.  Installs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

At least 18 years of age

High school education or a G.E.D.

Physically fit to perform work of the trade

Proficiency in math

 

Familiarity with construction is helpful

 

Works with power hand tools

 

Work will be both outdoors and indoors, with a large portion of work most likely being performed in uncompleted structures.

 

The apprentice will receive increment wage rate increases based on a percentage of the journeyman rate, beginning at approximately 25% of journeyworker pay and will receive an increase of 5% every 6 months with a 30% increase when the program is completed.

 

The apprentice will be required to attend related training classes at least twice a week in the evenings and attend some Saturday classes.  Classes run from mid-September through mid-May.

 

Provide transportation to and from the job site.

 

Report to work forty (40) hours per week, with good attendance and punctuality.

 

Condensed Work Experience:

 

Installation and maintenance of steam and hot water heating systems

Installation and maintenance of refrigeration systems

Installation and maintenance of air conditioning systems

Installation and maintenance of all types of chemical systems

Installation and maintenance of chillers

Installation and maintenance of temperature control piping

Installation and maintenance of high and low pressure boilers

Installation and maintenance of pneumatic and hydraulic piping

Installation of pipe and fittings, including carbon steel, stainless steel, PVC, copper, and fiberglass

Installation of pipe hangers, cutting and joining of pipe, assembling of systems and testing them under pressure

Welding of all types

Brazing and soldering

Rigging

OSHA Training

CPR and First Aid Training

 

Applications taken year round
