Elevator Constructor

The elevator constructor installs, maintains and repairs passenger and freight elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators, stage lifts and home elevators.
 

A person starts as a probationary helper for a six (6) month period. During this time they will be regularly evaluated and will be required to complete a safety correspondence course. After the probationary period has been completed and all necessary testing has successfully been completed, they will be classified as a helper and will be eligible to attend weekly evening courses. It takes a minimum of four and one-half (4-1/2) years to complete the required courses to be eligible to sit for the mechanics examination.
 

Basic Qualifications:

 

At least 18 years of age

High school education or a G.E.D.

Need to be proficient in math

Physically fit to perform work of the trade

Valid drivers license

Drug testing is required

 

Some of the work is in the hoistways on cabled lifts, ladders or scaffolding.

 

Condensed Work Experience:

 

Safe usage of tools and equipment used by Elevator Constructors

Scaffolding

Safety

Rigging and hoisting

Welding

 

Applications taken year round
